Chemical Properties
White needle-like crystals. Contains water of crystallisation when crystallised from water, becomes anhydrous at 100°C. Melting point 218-219°C (melting point 213°C in rapid heat). Soluble in hot water, ethanol, ether. Boiling in water, acid or salt solution removes carbon dioxide. Red colour with ferric chloride.
