Chemical Properties
Colourless or light yellow transparent liquid. Melting point 16.8℃, boiling point 114-115.5℃(1.73kPa), 85-86℃(0.4kPa), relative density 1.2199(20/4℃), refractive index 1.4921, flash point 93℃. Miscible with water, alcohol and ether.
Uses
1.3-mercaptopropionic acid is the intermediate of pharmaceutical fenarol, also used as PVC stabiliser. It can be used in transparent products like thioglycolic acid, its stability is very good, better than other stabilisers. It can also be used as antioxidant, catalyst and biochemical reagent.
2. Used as antioxidant, catalyst and biochemical reagent. High speed RP-HPLC/FC analysis of amino acids. Used as reagent for amino acid analysis by OPA.
3. Used in pharmaceutical intermediates, electronic chemicals, etc.
