N-methyl morpholine oxide (NMMO for short) solvent is a kind of special excellent solvent with strong solubility performance for cellulose, it is crystalline solid or liquid at room temperature, non-toxic, weak alkaline, strong hygroscopicity, each molecule can be combined with more than one water molecule, it is easy to produce a discolouration reaction when it is 120 ℃, and produces a superheated reaction when it is 175 ℃ and easy to be gasification decomposition, it is a high-level tertiary amine oxides.

N-Methylmorpholine N-oxide is commonly used to solubilise cellulose as well as to solubilise hard proteins.NMO is a non-metallic catalyst for the cyanosilylation of ketones. Co-oxidant for mild asymmetric dihydroxylation reactions in ionic liquids.
