Uses
1. Benzoic acid is an important acidic feed preservative. Under acidic conditions, it has an inhibitory effect on moulds, yeasts and bacteria, but has a weaker effect on acid-producing bacteria. The optimum PH for bacterial inhibition is 2.5-4.0, and generally lower than PH4.5-5.0 is preferred.
2. Benzoic acid is mainly used for antifungal and antiseptic, also used as anti-microbial agent.
3. It is usually used as perfume fixer or preservative.
4. Used in the production of medicine, dyestuff carrier, plasticiser, spice and food preservative, etc., also used in the performance improvement of alkyd resin coating; used as the intermediate of pharmacy and dyestuff, used in the production of plasticiser and spice, etc., also used as the rust preventive agent of iron and steel equipment.
5. Alkali quantitative standard.
