Para-benzoquinone, also known as 1,4-benzoquinone and 1,4-benzenedione, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C6H4O2.Pure para-benzoquinone is bright yellow crystals with a pungent odour similar to that of chlorine gas; impure samples are often dulled by the presence of quinone hydroquinone (a 1:1 charge-transfer complex formed by para-benzoquinone and hydroquinone). The p-benzoquinone contains a non-aromatic six-membered ring, which is an oxidation product of hydroquinone (hydroquinone).
