What is Azelaic acid？

Azelaic acid is an organic compound with the molecular formula C9H16O4 and the appearance of white to slightly yellow monoclinic prismatic, acicular crystals or powder.It is a naturally occurring dicarboxylic acid found in whole grains such as barley, wheat and rye. In skin care products, it is usually extracted from yeast or synthesised. 

Azelaic acid is a dermatological drug, mainly used for the treatment of acne, melasma and skin melanin deposition. It is also an important intermediate in organic synthesis, used in plastic chemicalbook material, rubber and other industries for the synthesis of plasticisers, in aviation oil for the synthesis of low-temperature high-speed lubricants, electrolytic capacitor manufacturing and other important applications. Most of azelaic acid is used in the production of dioctyl azelate (DOZ) plasticiser, and other uses are as a raw material for spices, lubricants, oils and polyamide resins. Azelaic acid can be used as a reagent, also used in organic synthesis, such as can be used as the production of plasticiser dioctyl azelate and spices, lubricants, oils, polyamide resin raw materials. In addition, azelaic acid is widely used in medicine and cosmetics.
