Guanidine hydrochloride is a white or slightly yellow colored mass that is soluble in methanol.It is used as follows：
1. It can be used as medicine, pesticide, dye and other organic synthesis intermediates. It can be used to synthesize 2-aminopyrimidine, 2-amino-6-methylpyrimidine, 2-amino-4,6-dimethylpyrimidine, and it is the intermediate for manufacturing sulfonamide drugs such as sulfadiazine, sulfadiazine-methylpyrimidine and sulfadiazine-dimethylpyrimidine.
2. Guanidine hydrochloride (or guanidine nitrate) reacts with ethyl cyanoacetate and cyclizes to 2,4-diamino-6-hydroxypyrimidine, which is used for the synthesis of the anti-anemia drug folic acid. It is also used as an antistatic agent for synthetic fibers.
3. Guanidine hydrochloride is a strong ionic protein denaturant.
